Hispania
William Fife design, 1909

After having been part of the regatta team onboard The Lady Anne two years before, with whom I share a great friendship. The 2014 season I joined Hispania as racing crew.
After sailing together in Mallorca and Portofino, shortly afterwards the board of Hispania offered me the captaincy of their 30 meter sailboat Rona.

From Mallorca, our first crossing took us to Cadiz.
A beautiful trip that five crewmembers remember with great joy and satisfaction.

The frenzy of the media, interviews and visits were accompanied by glamorous events and banquets, where protocol and etiquette reigned at all times.

Beside Hispania, the fleet is formed by Mariska, The Lady Anne and Tuiga, of the shipowner and skipper His Serene Highness the Prince of Monaco.

All this was repeated during the regatta circuits, navigating to the following appointments.
-
Puerto Sherry Classic Sailing Week 2016. Cadiz, Spain.
-
Club de Mar Classic Sailing Week 2016. Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
-
San Remo Classic Regatta 2016. San Remo, Italy.
-
Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez 2016. France.
-
Club de Mar Classic Sailing Week 2017. Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

A nice memory setting the sails in the bowsprit of Hispania.
Portofino Classic Sailing Week 2014,

Captain/Engineer at the regatta classic Hispania.
As a lover of sailing and its tradition, the mere fact of seeing a ship with so much class gives me goosebumps.
Being part of it in her day to day, taking care of her and keeping her beautiful to show off in the different regattas, has been an honour for me.

After a year and a half of being part of the shipowner family, being the captain of Hispania was added to my tasks in 2016.
With two boats and a regatta scheduled, a tough season of preparation was waiting ahead.

During Puerto Sherry Classic Week, great childhood friends and family gave me a warm welcome.

The International 15-meter Class consists of four boats built within the same parameters so that they are similar and thus compete in real-time, within a total length of around 30 meters.

Around twenty crew members are needed to navigate these ships on race. Manoeuvring in them is done as in the original fashion of the last century, without winches. With the help of pulleys and long lines of men coordinated to the voice of "One, Two"!

Hispania was built at the request of his Majesty the King Alfonso XIII of Spain and launched in 1909, competing on board in numerous international and 15-meter races. Of those who got to sail 23 at a time.
Beautiful memories of history are recorded on his planks, of this beloved and vivacious king enjoying his sailboat.
